This is my first time participating in Dewey’s Readathon, and I intend to enjoy it. In the past, my perfectionism has had a habit of tarnishing experiences, so I’m kicking it to the curb for today. I woke up at my start time of 8 a.m. and enjoyed setting up my reading space, settling in, and drinking my coffee.
With the first hour up, I’ve already accomplished one of my goals: to finish Jen Sincero’s You Are a Badass. Next up: El Deafo by Cece Bell.
In the meanwhile, here is my response to the opening meme:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Connecticut, USA
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Oooh, that’s a tough one. Probably The Girl on the Train because I keep hearing from readers that they couldn’t put it down.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
The Smartfood popcorn I bought. Yum yum! Don’t laugh, but I’m also really excited about the salad I prepared with blue cheese dressing and shaved carrots. Okay, you can laugh a little.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Oh gosh, this question always seems to leave me slack-jawed and drooling a little. I have a lot of enthusiasm about life, and I try to seek joy in the little things – a great book, a delicious pastry, a long walk on a beautiful day, dinner with loved ones, a good laugh. Finding those moments nourishes me so I have the stamina to get through life’s difficult bits.
Also, I love books and reading, a lot!
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
This is my first Readathon, and what I’m most excited about is sharing this experience. I “readathon” all the time on my own. Knowing that there are hundreds of people around the world doing it at the same time, witnessing the enthusiasm and support on social media, and reading everyone’s posts have been incredibly awe-inspiring and moving. I haven’t seen one unkind word, just heaps of love. I’m so happy to be part of it.
So that’s my opening meme. And now back to reading!
I have The Girl on the Train on my TBR too! I’m not sure I’ll make it into it today, but soon! Very soon!
Hi Andi! I’m thinking to save it for later in the day when I’m feeling tired and need a jolt!
Hope you enjoyed Girl on the Train
I liked reading your excitement and update for the read-a-thon. I started participating in them last year, but I do the relaxed, several day ones. Not sure I’d be up for a 24 hr one BUT for some reason I love following other peoples posts and progress when they attempt it.
Thank you for visiting! I did enjoy Girl on a Train. It was a great readathon book. And speaking of, I enjoy the several day ones too, like Bout of Books. I have yet to make it the full 24 hours for Dewey’s, but I agree, it’s fun to follow even though I’ve not made it yet myself.
